To send an e-mail message to Boyd Thompson about the 32nd Bomb Squadron, 1942 -1945, or its members,
THERE'S A LOT of difference between then and now, but it often feels as though no time at all has passed, my memories of the 32nd in World War II are so clear. Very possibly this is your experience, too.
IF YOU WERE a member of the 32nd Bomb Squadron, 301st Bomb Group (H) and served in England, North Africa or Italy anytime from August of 1942 through September of 1945, send me an e-mail note. Im sure we could exchange some great stories, and write a little bit of history, too.
AS FOR ME, I live in Staunton, Virginia. Staunton is the county seat of Augusta County and is located in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, between the Blue Ridge and Allegheny mountains. The City of Roanoke is at the southern end of the Valley and the City of Winchester is at the north. Staunton is at its center.
STAUNTON IS APPROXIMATELY 1440 feet above sea level according to the marker at the old Chesapeake and Ohio passenger train station. During the First and Second World Wars the train station served as an embarkation station for inductees and enlisted men.
I AM RETIRED NOW and enjoy golf, gardening, traveling, working with my computer, and reading. I have many volumes on the history of the Second World War, including some from the National Library. Even though it has been over fifty some years since the end of that dreadful war, I can remember some of my experiences as though they happened only yesterday, and I'm interested in hearing from anyone who served with the Squadron during that WWII period, 1942 - 1945.
OURS WAS ONE of the oldest Squadrons of B-17 heavy bombers in the United States Air Force.
IF YOU WERE A MEMBER of the 32nd Bomb Squadron during WWII or know of someone who was, I hope you will contact me.
I WOULD LIKE TO make this Web site a useful source of all types of information for those of us who were there, and for those who are interested in learning more about the War, too.
